How to Change the Site Language in WordPress
WordPress displays in U.S. English by default, but it supports other languages.
Problem
You installed WordPress in the wrong language. For example, you installed an English version but you want to use WordPress in Spanish.
Background
The site language is the primary language of the website. WordPress displays administrative screens in this language by default. It also sets the lang
attribute of the <html>
element to this language, in both the backend and the frontend.
Changing the site language does not change the language of the content. You need to apply a multilingual strategy to achieve this purpose.
Solution
Apply this procedure to change the site language in WordPress.
Step 1: Navigate to Settings in the WordPress admin bar.
Step 2: Choose a language in the Site Language dropdown.
Step 3: Click the Save Changes button located at the bottom of the screen.
Step 4: Verify that the user interface of WordPress changed to the chosen language.
